Vintage hedge ornament, bird on its nest, France, age unknown but at least 40 years old.
This is a hedge ornament. Never heard off before, haven't you? I had not, before I bought this one. But the lady I bought this from, a Frenchwoman, bought this one forty years ago on a antiques market in Paris. And she was told that is was a hedge ornament.
So she took it with her, planted it in her hedge, left it there for forty years, until all the paint was worn away and the joy washed away from her live in France. Then she packed her bags, pulled the bird from her hedge and tossed the bags and the bird in the back of her car and drove 1200 km to the Low Lands, for a new live with a new love.
But upon arrival in The Netherlands she found out that the new love had a nice place with a beautiful garden but no hedge. So she put it up against the wall and she quite liked it there, however it did not take a lot of persuasion from my side (and a good offer) to have her part with it. So once again, the bird in its nest was tossed in the back of a car, my car this time, and off she went again, to The Hague.
So there she stands now, in my shop. Waiting for a hedge or a place on someone's wall.
Handicraft I think, from someone in France. But very very nice.
It can be shipped by mail, but given its length, longer than 1 meter, it will be a bit more expensive than normal, there are extra charges when shipping something above a meter. Sorry.
Dimenions: will follow soon, I forgot to write them down. (Duh!!!)
