Painting of Bruges in the summer, signed M.D.J. van der Meer, 1964
Those who have been in Bruges and got stuck in the tourist trap that the historical centre has become will recognise this painting. Very elegant bridge, babbling river, sweet houses. Filled to the rafters with tourists.
But when Maarten van der Meer went there, in the summer 1964, there were some tourists, but not that much. So he painted it in all its sweet glory.
