One of the best finds I did recently is this silver-plated cloche. Not use to cover up a serving dish but for over your plate. And I thought in this age of caregivers and microwave meals, it might come in handy and add a little bit extra while serving that microwaved meal to your parents.
And while I was polishing it, since it had turned black due to lack of TLC, I spotted an engraving on the inside: 'Savoy Hotel, Cafe Parisien".
"Savoy Hotel", it has this ring to it, classy, mysterious and expensive. By just saying the name oud loud I get all kind of visons of times gone by.
And curious as I am, I wanted to know more, so in comes Google. And what did I find? In the precursor of the Guide Michelin, "The Gourmet Guide to London", a glowing review about the food in this Cafe. En review from 1914, for your information.
It just made my day. (And added an other € 20 euro to the cloche :-) )
