Delicate chair, antique, Holland, around 1890, original cloth underlay still on the chair, very nice decorations in gold paint, but fragile. No longer suitable for heavy duty daily use.
Lovely but very delicate chair. All that remains of the original upholstery is the burlap underlay, all the rest of the fabric deteriorated at the touch.
I really like it as it is now, but maybe you would like to have it re-upholstered.
It used to be a dining room chair but is no longer suited for a dining room, given the average size of the Dutch and/or Europeans now a days. Can you visualise your teenage son, leaning backwards in this little chair and what the consequences will be, both for the chair and your son? Better not.
I would place it in my bedroom, to put my clothes on and may be occasionally sit on to put on my shoes. I think that will be the recommendated use for this delicate piece.
Back height 85 cm, seating height 40 cm, seating depth 38 cm, seating width 41 cm, widest part on top 40 cm wide.
