Antique painting of a Ducht interior, oil on panel, not signed but dated 1928
Looking at this little painting my mind wanders off in strange directions. Because looking at this painting I see a typical Dutch interior from around the sixties. Including the oil lamp above the table and the Persian carpet used as a table cloth. Looking through the window you can see the polder landscape the house is standing in. All typically Dutch.
And then you see this little guy sitting at the table. Looking straight ahead. What is he seeing? Is he waiting on someone? Will he or she come, or is he waiting in vain.
From a commercial point of view I probably should not say this, but for me this painting gives me a slight sense of loneliness.
But may be I am wrong and when you look at this you see something entirely different. You might see a naughty housewife, waiting for her lover, whom has just phoned her telling her he is just around the corner, parking his Porsche cabrio out of sight so nobody will catch them. Could be.
