Drawing in colour of a farmers horse , G van Staveren (1790- 1864)
They do not breed them like this any more. With such a nice full bum and such a wide back. But now a days horses do not have to ànd pull a carriage, for sunday church, and work as a tractor during the rest of the week. And having to ride out with your boss after work hours. That is a lot of hard work for a horse, so they needed to be built like this.
So back to this drawing, it is very well drawn, nice colours and beautifully framed.
But since we are talking 'real antique' here, let me also give you some 'official' information about this drawing. So it is a drawing in colour of a horse from the 19th century, drawn on vergé paper. In the paper a watermark is visible. The paper is aged and has some staining. There are some creases and a thinning in a small part. The paper is not totally straight.
Dimensions: frame h 43 cm, w 52 cm, d 1 cm. Tekening: h 27 cm, w 36 cm.
