Antique mirror with crest, Dutch, 1920
I found this mirror at a market in the north of the Netherlands. I fell for its shape and it was immediately clear that it was an oldie. Not hundreds years old, but getting on in age. From the fifties, forties.
High quality wood, very heavy quality as well, completely unnecessary for such a modes size mirror.
But the colour was horrendous and the paint job it self was so very very bad. It was a high gloss pink, badly painted with the brush visible in every stroke and it was just the wrong colour. Can not explain exactly.
Bought it anyway and put it aside as a 'future potential'. That is to say, that if I had some time in the near future I would tackle it and upcycle it. And apparently I had the time this week.
So here it is now, in all its new glory. Painted in a dark, dark, dark green, with golden touch ups here and there. I really like it now, to be honest. But I have more mirrors than I have walls for, so it is up for sale now.
I thought it would be just the right size for a toilet or something like that.
Dimensions: frame h 50 cm, w 44 cm. Mirror size h 34 cm, w 29 cm. Oval shaped.
