Antique frame with Oriental inspired decor. wood with gilded plaster, Netherlands, around 1930
Stunning little frame, antique, with gilded decorations that look a bit Oriental. But they are not, it might be inspired by the tales of 1000 and 1 night. But......
if you turn the frame over, you can see a little label of the maker. And on that little label is written, in a very old fashioned hand : "For Lieke".
And now I can not stop thinking about Lieke, who was she? What was their relationship? Why did he give this frame to Lieke, or did he give a painting that was in the frame to Lieke? But why than glue the label on the frame and not on the label? We will never know for sure.
What we do know is that at one point in time, Lieke discarded this frame, and that is how it now ended up in my shop. (Luckey me)
There is some damage in the right lower corner. I can colour it gold for you again, but I can not restore it to its former decor. Sorry.
Frame: height 48 cm, width 43 cm, frame is 7 cm thick
can hold a painting of 25 cm high and 21 cm wide.
