Vintage garden statue of an otter, cement, Germany, around 1970
I really like these animals. Otters. If you see them in films on the internet, they are so very cute. It is a good thing they are not suitable as pets, because otherwise I would have one or two in my home for sure.
But I did not come across a garden statue of an otter before I found these two. Yes, I have two. This one and his twin, that you can find somewhere else here in the webshop. They both face the same way, which makes them brothers instead of a couple. And even though they are twins, if you look carefully there are some differences between the two. This one is a bit less green and has a bit less moss on its back than his brother.
I found them at the big 'garden statue rescue operation' I carried out in March. Where I went with shears and a hoe to liberate loads of garden statues from a very precarious situation. These two were there as well and I took them with me to The Hague.
I looked at them for a couple of months, in the garden at my place at the Kaag, but now they are allowed to roam the world. In the care of someone else.
