Antique secretaire, repainted , Dutch, 1890
This used to be the desk of my grandmother. Amo for those who knew her well. So this little secretaire is known throughout our family as 'the desk of Amo'.
It stood in her sleeping room and when I was (very) young, I used to play with it for hours on end. Opening and closing drawers, looking what was inside. Playing secretary, playing director, I was never bored behind this little secretaire.
My sweet granny passed away in 2015, after a long and happy life. She almost made it to 100 years old. I still think about her a lot and these memories always bring a smile to my face.
But after her passing the quest for a new owner for this little desk started. However fond we were off this desk, none of her children nor her grand children had room in their home for it. After some wanderings it ended up in storage.
But luckily, I am the proud owner of an antique shop. So in the end the secretaire moved to my shop and was given a total make-over. And look how nice it turned out.
We as a family have agreed to sell it and from the proceeds we will go out to dinner in a nice restaurant. And my grandmother would have loved it. Because for her there was no greater joy than having all of her family together, enjoying themselves.
