Deathmask of Beethoven, Germany, 1960
Oh that vain Mr. Beethoven. Did you know? That the world famous composer Beethoven had a death mask cast while he was still alive? So he could check if he looked just as nice in death as in real life. A selfie long before the invention of the mobile phone. Tells you something about his ego don't you agree?
What he doesn't know is that after he passed away a second death mask was cast, in which he had now say, since he was a dead as a doornail by that time.
And from that dead bed cast is this one in my shop a replica, in raisin with a painted face. This one is from the sixties, bought in the Beethoven Haus in Bonn by a large admirerer of Beethoven on a trip to Bonn.
Dimensions: H 27 cm, w 20 cm, d 15 cm.
