This lamp is a little displaced. It was bought in Syria by a diplomat. Even back then, it was already old and beautiful, shining in a wonderful home.

And then… what began as a brave demonstration turned into a full-scale war, and the diplomat had to leave. Quickly, leaving everything behind.

And yet, a few years later — by then the diplomat had moved to India — imagine the surprise when boxes arrived from Syria. Containing the belongings that had been left behind. The diplomat was happy, the lamp was happy. All’s well that ends well, you would think.

But then… Covid.

Covid reared its ugly head, and in a country like India, where medical care is, to put it mildly, somewhat overstretched, it meant yet another sudden departure. Quickly, leaving everything behind.

Twice this lamp has been left behind. Without care, without supervision.

And yet… once again, it found its way back to its rightful owner. After Covid, and a few more years of waiting, everything was finally packed up and shipped to the Netherlands.

At the end of 2025 (!!!), the container arrived. By then, the diplomat had reached retirement age, moved into a new home, and gathered a completely new interior — with no room for this lamp. (Nor, in fact, for the rest of the container’s contents.)

Despite the harsh journeys this brave lamp has endured — respect for the lamp. And respect, too, for the bureaucratic wheels that saved it from difficult circumstances, not once, but twice.

So I was able to buy it. And I did. New fitting, new wiring, a switch added — and it is ready once again, looking for new adventures. But preferably not too adventurous this time. It has been through quite enough.

It now has its residency permit for the Netherlands, so it is looking for a new home. A “status holder”, you might say.

You can buy it with or without the shade. You can buy even just the shade. But if you buy both, you get a bit of a discount.

The lamp is rather heavy so shipping costs will be calculated by hand, depending on where you live. You can always come and pick it up in the warehouse. And if you live in the The Hague region, I will come and deliver it in person.
