It is sometimes said, half jokingly, that just about everyone in The Hague owns a genuine Robert Lepeltier. Especially if you ever spent time having drinks at Pulchri. From what I gather, the man was drawing all day long. On beer mats, scraps of paper, anything he could get his hands on. And most of it seems to have survived.
That said, it does not take away from the fact that he was simply a very good artist. His work is sought after, his paintings perform well at auction, and his subjects are almost always cheerful and full of life.
Like these two pencil drawings. A pair of circus performers, I believe. And a lady in all her glory, wearing nothing but her duster. Perhaps a study, or simply a joyful doodle.
It is rather impressive, really, to create something like this with just a few lines on paper. At least, I certainly couldn’t.
Drawn on very simple craft paper, or perhaps just wrapping paper. And beautifully, professionally framed, silver frames with fine golden detailing and double mounts.
The frames are actually the reason I am offering them together here. They are exactly the same size, perfectly matched, and it would be rather nice to keep them as a pair.
Of course, if you feel otherwise, that is no problem at all. They can also be purchased separately. Though if you take them together, I will happily offer a small discount.
The drawing of the lady has become slightly wavy within the frame. If you were to take it out and refit it, that should easily be resolved.
